Commonly found in software user interfaces, mechanical instructions, and formal documents.
Use 挿入する in technical, business, or written settings (e.g., UI commands, form instructions). In spoken conversation about physical objects, native speakers usually prefer 差し込む or 入れる.
Mark the target location into which something is inserted with に (e.g., 文章にコメントを挿入する = insert a comment into the text).
From Kanji 挿 (sō, 'to insert') and 入 (nyū, 'to enter'), combined with the auxiliary verb する.
挿入する is more formal and precise than 差し込む (sashikomu) or 入れる (ireru). It is the standard term used in digital software (e.g. 'Insert' menu) and technical/mechanical prompts.
