“폭염주의보가 발령되면 실외 활동에 주의하세요.”
When a heat wave warning is issued, be careful with outdoor activities.
A weather advisory issued by the Korea Meteorological Administration warning of dangerously high temperatures.
기상청은 내일 오후에 폭염주의보를 발령할 예정입니다.
The Korea Meteorological Administration is expected to issue a heat wave warning tomorrow afternoon.
폭염주의보가 내려진 지역에서는 야외 활동이 제한될 수 있습니다.
Outdoor activities may be restricted in areas under a heat wave warning.
Issued when daytime temperatures are expected to reach at least 33°C (91.4°F) for two or more consecutive days.
'폭염주의보' is less severe than '폭염경보' (heat wave alert). The former is a watch/warning, while the latter is a more urgent alert requiring immediate action.
Use '폭염주의보' only for official weather advisories in Korea. For general heat warnings in other contexts, use 'heat wave warning' or 'extreme heat warning.'
Composed of '폭염' (extreme heat) + '주의보' (warning advisory). '폭염' comes from '폭' (violent/extreme) + '염' (heat), while '주의보' is a compound of '주의' (caution) + '보' (notice/report).
Used exclusively in South Korea's official weather alerts. Not interchangeable with general heat warnings in other countries.
