Vocapedia is a read-only informational service. We collect the following data when you use the service:

  • –Lookup queries — your search text, source language, and target language are temporarily processed to generate results
  • –Lookups history — each lookup is stored in our database to enable caching and shareable URLs
  • –Language preference — your selected target language is stored in a cookie for convenience

2. How We Use Information

We use collected data to: provide dictionary lookup results, enable caching for faster subsequent lookups, generate shareable URLs, and improve the service. Lookup data is stored in MongoDB and may be cached in Redis for performance.

3. Data Sources

We combine multiple open data sources to provide comprehensive dictionary information:

  • –WordNet (MIT License) — Princeton University
  • –Wiktionary (CC BY-SA 4.0) — Wikimedia Foundation
  • –Free Dictionary API — community-maintained Wiktionary data
  • –AI-generated explanations — produced by Gemini and Groq AI models

4. Cookies

We use a single cookie to remember your preferred target language (e.g., Vietnamese, Japanese). This cookie is small, does not track you across sites, and expires after 1 year. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party AI services to generate explanations:

  • –Google Gemini — AI model for definition generation
  • –Groq — fast AI inference for response generation
  • –Cloudflare Workers AI — cloud AI for translation and generation

6. Data Retention

Lookup records are stored indefinitely to support the caching system and shareable URLs. There is currently no automatic deletion mechanism. If you wish to request deletion of your lookup history, please contact us through the project repository.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • –Access the lookup data associated with your usage
  • –Request correction of any inaccurate data
  • –Request deletion of your lookup history
